In Memory of Joe Pineda

Vision Statement/Purpose: Joe Pineda lived with an abundance of love and he shared this generously with his family, friends and across communities where he lived and worked. His untimely death in 2023 is a profound loss for all who knew him. In his professional career, he worked as a realtor to find people their dream homes and as a volunteer he championed civil rights equality and a vision that housing is healthcare. Joe innately understood that whether it was helping to someone to buy their first condo or creating a pathway out of homelessness, that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity.

The Fund for Joey’s Place is hereby established to re-name a transitional housing apartment complex located at 1096-98 Young Street in Honolulu. This facility is operated by Gregory House Programs a Hawaii nonprofit corporation established in 1988 and provides safe housing and links to a wide array of care and supportive services for men and women exiting homelessness. The goal is to build skills and heal trauma so that a person can get on their way to stable permanent housing.

Joey’s Place is envisioned to lovingly honor the legacy of Joe Pineda by serving as a beacon of hope for those in need. Joe’s many friends, family and professional colleagues are invited to make a financial gift in any amount so that we can continually elevate this home as a place where people received dignity, care and love on their path to stable permanent housing.
